Weather

Central Coast's seasons

Know what the best season is to visit Central Coast and what to wear.

Winter
Winter

(December - February) With the coastal influence of the Central Coast wine country, the winters are enjoyable, but can get cold because the inland valleys can be shielded from the onshore winds. Winter is the slowest time of the year where daytime temps range from 30-55 degrees, so we recommend you dress in layers.

Spring
Spring

(March - May) As Spring arrives, so do the temperatures. Spring awashes the hillsides in green and the vineyards become to life, showing their foliage in late April. Spring is also "release" season where most wineries begin offering their latest vintages with special parties and experiences. Reservations are recommended as many of the local wineries are small and offer limited space.

Summer
Summer

(June - August) Summer can offer temperatures from 65-95 degrees at times depending on the elevations you plan on visiting. We recommend you drink a lot of water and enjoy yourself as wineries offer many different tour and tasting events to choose from. Reservations are strongly recommended starting mid-June.

Fall
Fall

(September - November) Fall is harvest season in the Central Coast wine country, offering temperatures that range from 70 - 85 in September/October to cooler temps in November. This is the busiest time of the year as wineries host harvest parties. Most tasting rooms are small, so space is limited. Plan ahead if you want a really enjoy this region. Reservations are required.

Tips

Central Coast's travel tips

Traveling to Central Coast

  • If you want to tour through the Monterey-area wine country, you'll want to fly into Monterey Regional Airport (MRY). If you are visiting the Paso Robles or San Luis Obispo areas we recommend you fly into San Luis Obispo (SBP) and for Santa Barbara, the largest of the regional airports with the most options is Santa Barbara Airport (SBA).
  • If you are already in one of the local areas, there's a few different transportation companies that can get you around from popular ride sharing apps. Private shuttles can be hired to get you to and from the airport and on your daily excursions.
  • Being the region is vast, there are no public options available to travel throughout the region, but there are local shuttles in Monterey, Paso Robles and Santa Barbara.
About Central Coast

With more than 600 wineries in the region, the Central Coast has quickly risen to the top of rock star status for producing premium-quality Rhône varietals. With plenty of festivals happening in the summer months, the area has peak travel months from late June through early October.
